World renowned climate scientist John Michael Wallace from University of Washington, Seattle recently said there was a need for adopting an alternative view on climate change instead of following the traditional definition and model followed over the past few decades.
Wallace was addressing a gathering of climate scientists, students and scholars on the topic ‘Climate Change: Science and Politics’ as a part of Professor PR Pisharoty Distinguished lectures at the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) at Pune University, which was organised by the Pune Chapter of The Indian Meterological Society. The lecture was sponsored by Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune and India Meteorological Department.
He said there was also a need to take a holistic view of natural science as a subject instead of focusing on climate change. The focus on misstatements by the Inter Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) give a false impression that scientists have exaggerated the immediacy of the global environmental crisis
